রমজানের ইফতার মানেই খেজুর, ছোলা, পেঁয়াজু, বেগুনী, আলুর চপ, জিলাপি, হালিমের মতো বাহারি সব খাবার। সেই সাথে পুরান ঢাকার ঐতিহ্যবাহী চকবাজারের ইফতার তো এককথায় অতুলনীয়।
শুধুমাত্র রমজান মাসেই একটি পরিবার তাদের বছরের মোট খাবারের খরচের ১৫শতাংশ খরচ করে থাকে। বিশ্বজুড়ে ইফতারে আয়োজিত এই বাহারি সকল আয়োজন যেমনটা দেখছেন, এর মাঝে প্রচুর খাবার কিন্তু অপচয়ও হয়ে থাকে। যেমন মিশরেই রমজান মাসে প্রায় ৬০ শতাংশ খাবার অপচয় হয় যা কিনা রমজানের নীতি-নৈতিকতার সাংঘর্ষক।
